Bailey Military Institute offers three external degrees: the Associate of Arts Degree in American Military History, the Associate of Arts Degree in Business Management, the Associate of Arts Degree in Homeland Security. To apply to the external degree programs submit an external degree application for admission along with $50.00 and transcripts from all high schools and colleges attended to:

Applications for admission may be submitted at any time. Course work will be mailed as soon as the admissions review process is completed. The admissions process is as follows:
- Be a high school graduate.
- Present acceptable SAT(850) or ACT(17) scores or be a college transfer with at least 12 semester hours of acceptable work or 12 semester hours earned by CLEP, End of course or credit for Military Training. DD Form 214 required for former Military. Certificate of completion required for active duty active military.
- Persons over thirty years old may use college entrance test score administered by BMI in lieu of SAT or ACT scores.
- A course outline will be provided when a specific course is registered for. A videotape orientation will be provided.
- Students must complete at least 18 semester hours at BMI to qualify for a degree from The Institute.
- Organized athletics include Golf, Orienteering, Bowling, and Fencing based on ten or more eligible students in a geographical location.
- Tuition is $45.00 per semester hour.
- Students desiring to participate in BMI's graduation ceremony must complete all requirements for graduation by May of the last year they wish to march.
BMI students are classified as follows:
- 0-30 hours, freshman
- 31 to 61 hours, sophomore
- 62 hourse or more, graduate
Student Grade Point Averages are determined as follows:
- A=4.0
- B=3.0
- C=2.0
- D=1.0
- Grades below D have no value.
Upon submission of the application for admission and the registration fee a course outline for the Associatees Degree in American Military History or Business Management will be provided.
In determining which course to enroll in first, the following information is provided: Courses beginning with 1 are first year courses, courses beginning with 2 are second year courses. The second number represents the number of credit hours and the third and fourth numbers represent the BMI Department. For example, Course number 1301 means a first year, three credit hour course in English.
